About the Street:
In the mid-nineteenth century, during the Ottoman Empire, a surprising collaboration between Arab Christians and Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews led to the construction of the first commercial street outside of Old Jaffa.
On the route of the historic road from Jaffa to Nablus and Damascus - Bustros Street (the original name of the street) was the connecting axis between Jaffa and the city of Tel Aviv, which was founded later.
There are several historical landmarks, among them: The railway that carried wagons to transport goods from Jaffa Port, the Clock Tower in the square, Sursock House, and a street lamp post that was connected to the electricity grid of Pinchas Rotenberg in Tel Aviv in 1923.
Today, the area has a vibrant urban atmosphere with small artisan shops, boutiques, studios, coffee shops, restaurants, beaches and maritime activities.
